Repair history is neither automatic proof nor automatic suspicion. The useful question is whether the current object and its records tell one disclosed story.
Repainted edges
Fresh edge colour can conceal wear or prior cracking. Request the atelier invoice, treated areas and before/after photographs.
Replaced handle or hardware
A legitimate repair can change colour, finish or date consistency. Record which parts changed and who supplied them.
Deep cleaning or recolouring
Appearance may improve while original finish and future resale disclosure change. Ask what products and processes were used.
Preserve the evidence
Before cleaning, servicing or adjusting.

Does a brand repair authenticate a bag?
A repair acceptance or invoice can support a service history, but it is not automatically a transferable authenticity certificate. Read the exact wording.
Can recolouring reduce resale value?
It can change originality and buyer expectations. Disclose the treated area, provider and date rather than promising a value result.
Should a seller disclose a replaced strap?
Yes. A replacement changes the object’s history and may affect configuration, condition and price comparison.
Is leather smell useful?
Not as a verdict. Material, storage, smoke, humidity and cleaning products all change odour.
